Workers at EC Montreal Language Centre Join The General Union

EC Montreal staff unionize to secure better pay and working hours

MONTREAL, QC Jul 26 2024 : The General Union is excited to announce that the employees of EC Montreal have filed a petition for certification with the Tribunal administratif du travail, with majority support. These teachers are fighting for living wages to combat inflation, better and more regular working hours, and smaller class sizes, among other goals. Along with fighting the ongoing cost of living crisis in Quebec, these aims are centred on working with the school to improve the teachers’ ability to provide high quality education for their students.

EC Montreal is Canada’s oldest private language school, established in 1991. The company now has 15 schools, in five countries, across three continents, with over 700 staff teaching 40,000+ students. EC Montreal is one of the first unionized private sector language schools in Quebec, part of a wave of unionization efforts across North America, particularly in previously unorganized companies and industries.
